Dear members,
Since its creation, the Alpine Club has brought together a community united around the mountains and respect for the natural environment.
Today, we’d like to talk openly and honestly about an important issue: the future of Keene Farm.
Located in the heart of the Adirondacks, Keene Farm is more than just a retreat or a piece of land: it’s an iconic place, a haven, a pillar of our community and our adventures, a place to retreat and meet that hosts many of our major annual events. For nearly 60 years, this property has been a living symbol of our commitment to the alpine spirit, nature and its preservation. We believe in the bonds we create, in the power of volunteerism, and in responsible access to natural spaces.
But now, visitor numbers have dropped significantly in recent months. This significant drop in bookings could raise medium-term financial issues for the upkeep and sustainability of our unique playground.
We understand that the current political and economic context is causing some people to limit their travel to the United States. Please understand that the section takes no political position. Your personal choices in the face of the situation are your own, and we fully respect them.
We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that Keene Farm is owned by a Canadian non-profit organization, run by volunteers: all revenues generated are used to pay fixed costs, maintain the premises and support our various activities.
Continuing to come to Keene Farm remains one of the most concrete ways of ensuring the long-term future of our refuge. But there are other ways to support our section, and we’re more than ever open to thinking with you about what we can do together in these uncertain times
Thank you for being with us – on the trails, on the walls, camping, in the refuge or at our events – and for keeping our community alive.
In any case, should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at : sectionchair@alpineclubmontreal.ca.
Yours truly,
Jacques Chevalier, Section Chair
